Canberra’s operatic spectacular, Voices in the Forest, will return for its sixth concert at Llewellyn Hall on Saturday, 19 November 2016.

This year’s concert will be another magnificent musical showcase presenting a superb line up of some of the finest voices in the world

SUMI JO, soprano

Praised for the remarkable agility, precision and warmth of her voice and for her outstanding musicianship, Sumi jo has firmly established herself as a ‘once in a generation’ singer. She has been consistently greeted with exceptional accolades, by the public and press alike for her performances in the most important opera houses and concert halls throughout the world. In this year’s program, Sumi Jo will present an homage to the immortal coloratura soprano, Maria Callas.


With his beautiful, lyric tennor voice Richard Troxell has been thrilling audiences wherever he has sung, at home in the United States and around the world. His vocal artistry and powerful stage presence have set him apart from his peers and his ability to connect with audiences earn him standing ovations wherever he appears.

SALLY-ANNE RUSSElL, Mezzo-soprano

One of Austrlaia’s finest mezzo-sopranos, Sally-Anne has over fifty operatic roles in her repertoire and is known across Australia for her warmth of tone, the flexibility of her coloratura and her vivacity and humour as a performer on opera and concert stages alike.

The Voices in the Forest Orchestra showcases Canberra’s leading instrumentalists. Consisting of over fifty brilliant musicians and directed by one the finest conductors in Australia – Roland Peelman.

Artists include the Voices in the Forest Opera Chorus drawn from Canberra’s best singers and the Woden Valley Youth Choir. Whether your preference is to be c seated theatre-style, or to relax with friends and family enjoying a picnic on the grass, Voices in the Forest promises to be a delightful event for everyone.

This year’s Voices in the Forest concert will yet again be filled with beautiful voices and stunning performances of a program of well-known operatic arias.

Cocktails after the show will be held in AthenAeUm from 9.30pm for VIPs, group/corporate packages and cocktail function ticketholders.


Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists and VIP guests at cocktails after the show in the AthenAeUm. Cocktails after the show is a stand up function which includes canapes, wines, beer and soft drinks. The function will start immediately after the concert at 9.30pm.

Cocktails after the show tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased. Available to holders of the concert tickets only.
